Common Humanity
Mettle Child, Inc., based in Mobile County, Alabama, was founded in memory of Mary J. Williams who envisioned a society that would rouse courage, mettle, and ardor within at-risk and maltreated children and youth. Imparting the promise of a future and a hope, her legacy of compassion guides Mettle Child and is carried on by her daughter, La Nita Holder, Mettle Child’s Founder and Executive Director.
With a full spectrum of solution focused extracurricular enrichment programs, Mettle Child provides a unique educational experience, one that speaks not only to your child's intellect, but to their humanity, conscience and creativity as well. Specializing in providing intensive in-home and community-based family crisis prevention and early intervention. Wherein we explore new topics of special interest and improve the quality of life for at-risk children and families through loving supportive services that evoke mindful self-compassion for healing and increase.
As a grassroots movement to end child maltreatment, Mettle Child is committed to Renewing Childhood Experiences® through art, care, mentoring, and play. Recognized for preserving educational and spiritual excellence, collectively the power of active and experiential learning, health and nutrition (benefit academic and athletic performance), Biblical principles and motivational methodologies draw for restorative transformation in children experiencing severe emotional, behavioral, and developmental problems.
Advocating for the special needs of troubled children, and devoting ongoing one-on-one support to help every child manage day-to-day challenges to reduce recidivism; Mettle Child enthuses fortitude and purpose, whilst avidly supporting youth leadership. We cultivate a sense of connection to each other and to our surroundings. Your child develops a sense of belonging to a nurturing community that remains with them throughout life. By virtue of encouraging consciousness and goodwill throughout our children's lifetime, Mettle Child produces lasting change via daily interactions―in their home, in their school, in their workplace, and in their community. In so doing, at-risk children have a greater chance of “permanency at home with the families who love them” versus an interim removal from their home to a foster home or residential treatment facility; or life (on the streets).
