Hiring Process
Mettle Child uses the following process when recruiting and hiring associates:
i) Mettle Child's recruiters review all résumé and cover letters submitted to identify qualified applicants.
ii) Qualified applicants are invited to a telephone call screening with a recruiter.
iii) Applicants who are successfully screened will be invited to an in-person interview (Mettle Child typically conducts 1 to 2
rounds of in-person interviews in the hiring process).
iv) Once an applicant has successfully completed the interview process, Mettle Child will make a verbal job offer, contingent upon
reference checks and successful completion of pre-employment requirements: criminal record and child abuse index clearance,
physical which includes a TB Test clearance, drug screen, and acceptable Department of Motor Vehicle record.
v) When pre-employment requirements are satisfied, a formal, written job offer will be extended.

Family Support Specialist
Minimum Qualification:
Master's or Bachelor of Science degree in a social sciences field.
Description: The Family Support Specialist has many roles in supporting a citizen with a developmental disability. Their chief role is to be the primary advocate for the child to assure the child receives supports and services that protect their health and safety, are driven based on the individual’s dreams, that the individual is always treated with dignity, love, and respect and that the child is linked to community resources. The support provided by the Family Support Specialist is different depending on the child’s services and needs.
For example:
People that are in need of services but funding is unavailable are placed on a planning list for services. The Support Specialist for this person will make contact with the individual/family/representative at least one time every month. One of these contacts, every three months, will be a face to face visit. The purpose for this contact is to confirm the child’s most in need status and report any changes in needs to the State. In addition, the Family Support Specialist will assist the individual/family/representative in locating other community resources that may meet some or all of the needs that are present.
If a child receives Family Support services (intermittent support services) the Support Specialist role remains the same with one exception. The Support Specialist will also assure the services the individual should be receiving is being provided as prescribed in the Individual Family Support Plan. The Support Specialist should maintain contacts at a minimum as stated above.
For children and families that receive long term services such as Day Services, Employment Services, Residential Services or Personal Support Services the Mission Integration Team determines how frequently the Family Support Specialist will make contact with the individual/family/representative and in what manner. The Family Support Specialist has numerous responsibilities while supporting individual’s receiving these services which include all of the above as well as documenting, reporting and following-up on health and safety issues, dignity and rights issues, choices and preferences and the implementation of the Mission Integration Team.
