Mettle Child, Inc., offers unpaid internships to current students and recent graduates interested in learning the inner workings of a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Interns will be paired with a counselor for one-on-one mentorship to gain hands on experience in their area of interest.

Shared Services:
Human Resources interns will be assigned projects that allow them to collaborate cross functionally in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment. Project deliverables will be chosen from across the major human resources disciplines of talent acquisition, talent management, total rewards and organizational development.
Organizational Support interns work to ensure that every person who calls, emails, writes or walks through the doors is provided with the support they need in order to have a positive experience with Mettle Child. Tasks will include answering phones, responding to constituent emails.
Executive Office interns will assist with managing the relationship between Mettle Child and its Board of Directors, support the executive office with online file management and internal/external communications, aid in the planning of major events and projects and coordinate with the Stewardship and Navigation Services teams to create packages for families and donors. Tasks may include online data entry, research, drafting and proofing of formal documents and management of Mettle Child merchandise.
Information Technology interns help maintain technology resources that support Mettle Child. Tasks may include working in our database to manage records, event registration lists, donation forms and contact forms.
Development and Fundraising:
Event Fundraising and Promotion interns will assist our constituents in developing successful fundraising plans to support their event goals. Tasks include constituent communication, sharing fundraising tactics and fulfilling requests from fundraisers. Additionally, interns will help Mettle Child organize events to engage constituents at all levels. Tasks may include interacting with vendors, sponsors, participants, volunteers and other organizations to grow Mettle Child awareness, recruit participants and set up in-market activities.
Donor Relations interns will help the Development Committee as they work to enhance communications and customer service for constituents. Tasks include responding to constituent and donor requests, compiling mailings, data entry, donor stewardship, matching gift streamlining and assisting the Development Committee as needed.
Stewardship interns will support the Development Committee in thanking, cultivating, nurturing and sustaining relationships with every donor that invests in our mission. The stewardship programs help donors recognize the vital importance and impact of their giving which in turn strengthens their ties to our mission. And through sharing of information and appropriate recognition, we aim to develop and sustain lifelong relationships between donors and Mettle Child.
Grassroots Fundraising interns will help manage relationships with fundraisers from across the country as well as some international fundraisers via email and phone calls to answer questions and work to find new and creative ways to thank our fundraisers. Interns will also have the opportunity to work with Mettle Child participants through one or more endurance events. Grassroots interns will acquire an understanding of our event structure and process, and might even leave the experience inspired to run a marathon, ride a bike 60 miles or host the world's greatest talent show.
Programs:
Navigation Services interns help us provide world class support services to people affected by child abuse. Duties include compiling resources for the navigation database; communicating with families via email, on the phone, and in person; and assisting at the front desk as needed.
Research and Evaluation interns will help to measure the impact of Mettle Child initiatives. Tasks will include data collection, research and evaluating programmatic initiatives. Interns will have the opportunity to analyze data and report internally and externally on the outcomes of Mettle Child initiatives including abuse support information and services, grant funded programs and public health and health policy initiatives. Interns must have strong computer skills including Excel and Word and have the ability to complete tasks such as analyze data and develop charts and tables to be included in reports. SPSS experience is a plus.
Promoters:
Community Action interns will assist with the allocation and monitoring of grant funds to program partners that offer direct services to children in foster care, group homes, and in the community and abuse centers across North America. Tasks will include helping organize and coordinate grant activities, daily communication with grantees and potential partners and coordinating outreach campaigns. Community Action interns will also work cross functionally with various teams within Mettle Child. Ideal applicants should have strong communication skills, be highly organized and have the ability to think big. Fresh ideas are always welcome to further enhance this innovative program.
Program interns will help manage and support the professional development of our promoters. Duties will include grading exams, certificate fulfillment for trainings and webinars, data entry and other projects as assigned. Interns will also work on material fulfillment and managing inventory to ensure that promoters have the tools and resources to be successful in the field.
Public Health interns will help the family of Mettle Child as they work to empower the child abuse advocacy community and address the unmet needs of survivors. Interns may work in areas such as educational material development and dissemination, program planning and evaluation. Tasks may include research, communication with partners, event planning and coordination with peer reviewers and experts.
Health Policy interns will help advance Mettle Child position on priority global, national and local issues relevant to people affected by abuse. Interns will work across committees teams to develop and promote organizational recommendations for government legislation or regulations, clinical standards and other policy-related guidance or statements. Interns will also respond to stakeholder policy inquiries as needed. Prospective interns should be at the graduate-student level with a concentration or focus in public health (domestic or international), policy, or administration; law; or communications. Prospects also should have experience in research and analysis, and strong familiarity with policy literature and newsfeeds.
Advocacy and Engagement interns will help Mettle Child as we work to make cancer a global priority through engaging grassroots volunteers around our mission and advocacy opportunities that support our public policy initiatives. Tasks may include interacting regularly with top grassroots volunteers, helping coordinate outreach communications, planning events and researching policy issues and key legislators.
Business Planning and Development interns perform a variety of different roles to advance Mettle Child’s mission. Projects include assisting in the development of strategic plans, financial analysis of projects and preparation of executive level documents and presentations. The ideal candidate will be an MBA student seeking experience in nonprofit strategic planning and business development as well as exposure to executive level leadership.
Government Relations and External Affairs:
Government Relations interns will assist Mettle Child's efforts to improve the lives of people affected by abuse through policy change at the global, federal and local level. Tasks include: corresponding with elected officials and organizations/members of the abuse community, tracking bills of interest through the legislative process and aiding in the organization of abuse policy meetings and Mettle Child advocacy events.
Communications and External Affairs interns will assist with projects involving constituent communications, writing and distributing press releases, media relations and a variety of public relations tasks critical to the day-to-day functions of a busy public affairs office.
Marketing and Public Relations:
Marketing Services interns will assist the Marketing and Public Relations Committee with project management, including project initiation, creative brief development, working with internal clients and the creative services team and stewarding the review and approval process. Interns will also work with printers and vendors, fulfill internal and external requests Mettle Child photos and logos, provide general administrative assistance and manage at least one long-term project.
Web Development interns will assist the new media team with online projects. Tasks may include writing HTML/CSS/Javascript for web updates, creating web graphics, editing and uploading photo and video content and carrying out any other web related requests.
Social Media interns will help maintain Mettle Child's online presence across Mettle Child’s Blog, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and other social media networking sites. Tasks may include writing blogs, editing and uploading photo and video content, and other web related requests.
Graphic Design interns will assist with the development and design of core Mettle Child graphics, collateral and event materials along with helping design and develop collateral updates. Interns will also have the opportunity to attend project meetings and press checks. Interns must be proficient in basic design programs including Adobe Creative Suite and Quark Xpress. Writing and proofing skills are required.
UI Design interns will support our marketing team with interface design and image production for online publishing. Must be proficient in Photoshop and have excellent typographic skills; a working knowledge of HTML/CSS and experience developing interface wireframes is a plus.
Editorial interns will assist with researching, writing and editing content for a variety of projects across Mettle Child initiatives. Interns will work with multiple departments across Mettle Child to help produce both online and offline content that may include landing pages, collateral pieces and more. Familiarity with AP Style is a plus.
