Youth Leadership Values Training
The Mettle Child is self-motivated and curious, with an appreciation for other cultures and languages. Youth who complete our program have a strong sense of self and are often leaders who express social responsibility, as well as global and environmental awareness. They are deep thinkers and artistically sensitive, creative problem solvers who express empathy toward others. Through values training, these qualities can be inspired by example, taught by discussion, and solidified by providing experiences that challenge children and youth to apply what they have learned.
I I shall treat others the way I would like to be treated (courteously, dignifiedly, and sincerely).
II I shall share my story and be transformed.
III I shall be a doer and actively participate in all Mettle Child activities, programs and services.
IV I shall refrain from bullying, deception, fighting, inappropriate dialogue, profanity, sexual innuendos, and stealing.
V I shall not bring electronic devices* (e.g., CD/DVD player, iPod, Kindle, MP3 player, Nintendo, stereo) to Mettle Child.
VI I shall adopt healthy habits and not intake alcohol, caffeine, drugs, smoking, excessive sweets or junk food.
VII I shall utilize care and caution at all times—neither horseplay nor wandering or leaving without consent is allowed.
VIII I shall be a leader and notify a Mettle Child counselor of any emotional, financial, physical, or verbal abuse to self or others.
IX I shall be a helper of good deeds in my community and for my environment.
X I shall welcome fresh and unexpected ideas and ways of doing things.
XI I shall always let my light shine and cooperate with the day-to-day operations of Mettle Child.
We hold our children up to high standards for behavior and respect at Mettle Child and encourage and greatly appreciate parents’ efforts to reinforce our youth leadership values at home. This provides children with consistency and healthy guidelines for achievement, courage, integrity, and responsibility; and creates unity between the messages children receive at home and at Mettle Child.
*Parents and legal guardians, please advise your child that mobile phones (data, talk, and text) may not be used whilst occupied in Mettle Child activities, programs and services. Possession of such device is a privilege permissible for emergency purposes only!
